How to Avoid Sea Sickness on a Ship
How to Avoid Sea Sickness on a Ship
Step 1
Book a cabin in the middle of the ship. There is less motion in the middle of the ship verses the front (bow) or the back (stern) of the ship.
Step 2
Place a Transderm Scop patch behind your ear at least eight hours before you get on the ship. This patch is easy to use and will last three days; however, it can cause sleepiness and dry mouth.
Step 3
If you have a history of sea sickness, take Dramamine or Bonine a few hours before you board the ship. It will prevent the sea sickness but will make you drowsy. You can purchase these products on most ships, but if you don't take it early enough, it won't work properly.
Step 4
Wear a Sea Bands bracelet on your wrist when you board the ship. This bracelet puts pressure on the part of your wrist that is associated with nausea. It is safe for anyone to use because it is not a drug.
Step 5
Keep your eye on the horizon and walk around the ship as soon as you board. Lying down can make nausea and dizziness worse. Keep in motion until your body adjusts to the motion of the ship.
